These would be evaluated as important because they would include specific data and discoveries regarding the nature versus nurture idea and would include brains scan charts and some DNA data inconsistencies between serial killers and non serial killers. The way to go about finding sources is through scholarly books and journals. While pre-searching, I found a lot of information regarding brain scans on offenders, but that was after head trauma. As cliché as it sounds, ITS TRUE! So many have yet to be caught and with my research, I will aim to contribute new information, or a nuanced way to see the information already presented, regarding the nature versus nurture debate. This topic is of significance because there are serial killers everywhere. I gathered some basic knowledge about serial killers and the nature versus nurture debate…the downside was that this information was mostly blog posting and student papers for college classes that had been posted online, so it’s not any information that is scholarly. I literally typed in: serial killers and nature versus nurture. Is it an argument of nurture, or do serial killers truly have genetic differences from other people? Pre-searching started with my bff Google. Or how Ted Kaczinski chose his bomb victims.
When we started discussing serial killers and creating profiles for them, I kept getting that thought in my head about Jeffery Dahmer and why he wanted to kill for fun.
What I hope that my research will show, or what the whole point of doing this work, is to solve the question of What causes serial killers to kill? What sparks that desire to watch someone die at their hands? What is the relationship between serial killers and genetics? Is it nature or nurture that influences killing more? I was first influenced by this topic because of my criminal profiling class. My first research proposal is for Genetics and Serial Killers. Each topic requires one to prove that it is worth doing the work for. The research proposal is just that: a proposal to do research.
